LIVV Pro vs AirPods Max: Premium Over-Ear, Two Very Different Lives

AirPods Max sit at the top of Apple’s ecosystem. The LIVV Pro sits at the top of any athlete’s gear bag. Both are premium over-ears. Here’s how to figure out which one belongs in yours — and why the price gap matters.

The Short Version

Buy the AirPods Max if you live entirely inside Apple’s ecosystem and you almost never sweat. The H2 chip, Personalized Spatial Audio, Live Translation, and seamless handoff between iPhone, iPad, and Mac are genuinely best-in-class. You’ll pay $549 for it, and you won’t be working out in them.

Buy the LIVV Pro if you want a premium over-ear that fits an active life and saves you $200. IPX4 sweat resistance, 2.5x the battery life with ANC engaged, a secure fit built for movement, and full functionality on any phone or laptop — not just Apple devices.

Price: Where the $200 Goes

At $549, the AirPods Max are the most expensive mainstream over-ears on the market. You’re paying for premium aluminum, the H2 chip, Apple’s ecosystem features, and the brand. The LIVV Pro lands at $349.99 with a head-to-head feature spec on most dimensions and a meaningful advantage on durability, battery, and active-use design.

If the Apple ecosystem features are worth $200 to you, the AirPods Max are reasonable. If they aren’t, that $200 buys a lot of running shoes.

Sweat and Workout Use

Apple does not market the AirPods Max for workouts and does not offer an IP rating. The premium aluminum construction makes them heavy (384.8 g — significantly heavier than most over-ears) and the mesh canopy is not designed to deal with sweat. Working out in AirPods Max will eventually damage them and is not covered.

The LIVV Pro is IPX4-rated. The fit was designed by an NFL athlete for an NFL athlete’s workout. This is the use case the product was built for.

Winner: LIVV Pro

Weight and Wearability

AirPods Max weigh 384.8 g — nearly 100 g heavier than the LIVV Pro and roughly 130 g heavier than the Bose QC Ultra. Apple offsets some of that with the mesh canopy headband, which spreads pressure across the top of the head. Many users find them comfortable for hours. Others find the weight noticeable on long flights or full work days.

The LIVV Pro’s lighter weight and active-fit geometry make it more comfortable for movement and for users who don’t love the heft of the AirPods Max.

Battery Life

This isn’t close. The AirPods Max deliver around 20 hours of playback. The LIVV Pro delivers 40 hours with ANC on and 50 hours with it off. That’s 2x to 2.5x the runtime.

For a frequent traveler, the difference is one charge per trip vs. multiple charges. For an everyday user, it’s charging once a week vs. charging two or three times.

Winner: LIVV Pro

Sound Quality and Spatial Audio

The AirPods Max have always sounded excellent. The H2 chip in the 2026 update further improves dynamic range and the ANC implementation. Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking is one of the most polished spatial audio features in the industry, and the LIVV Pro does not match it.

For raw musical performance, both headphones are well above the threshold where most listeners can hear meaningful differences in a real-world environment. AirPods Max have the slight edge for critical listening; LIVV Pro has the edge for active listening and energetic playlists.

Active Noise Cancellation

The H2 chip’s ANC implementation is genuinely excellent and class-leading. The LIVV Pro’s ANC is rated at up to −35 dB with 3-level transparency — very effective for gym, office, and most commutes, but not the very top of the bracket.

For pure noise suppression on a plane, AirPods Max have the edge. For most daily contexts, both are more than enough.

Apple Ecosystem vs. Cross-Platform

If you use an iPhone, iPad, and Mac, the AirPods Max integrate seamlessly: instant pairing, audio handoff between devices, Find My, Live Translation, hands-free Siri. That’s a meaningful productivity and convenience benefit if you live inside that ecosystem.

The LIVV Pro is platform-agnostic. It works fully on iPhone, fully on Android, and fully on any laptop or device with Bluetooth or USB-C. No brand lock-in, no chip-gated features.

Microphones and Calls

The AirPods Max have 9 microphones — some for ANC, some for transparency, some for calls. Voice pickup is among the best in the category, especially in quiet environments.

The LIVV Pro uses a 5-microphone array with dual-mic ENC, designed to reject the kind of background noise you encounter in gyms, on streets, and outdoors. For calls in noisy environments, the LIVV’s ENC tuning is more aggressive.

Verdict: Even, with different strengths

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work out in AirPods Max?

Apple does not recommend it. AirPods Max have no IP rating, weigh 384.8 g, and the premium materials are not designed for sweat exposure. Damage from workout use is not covered by warranty.

Are AirPods Max worth $549?

It depends entirely on how deep into the Apple ecosystem you live. If you use AirPods Pro / Max features daily across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, you’ll likely feel the value. If you don’t, you can get comparable everyday performance from the LIVV Pro at $349.99 with better battery life and active-use capability.

Which has better noise cancellation?

The AirPods Max with H2 chip currently sit at the top of the over-ear ANC category. The LIVV Pro ANC (up to −35 dB) is very effective for gym, office, and most commute scenarios but does not match AirPods Max at maximum-suppression listening.

Which has better battery life?

The LIVV Pro wins by a wide margin. 50 hours without ANC and 40 hours with ANC, compared to roughly 20 hours on the AirPods Max.

Does the LIVV Pro work with iPhone the way AirPods Max do?

The LIVV Pro pairs with iPhone via standard Bluetooth and works with the dedicated LIVV Audio app on the App Store. It does not have an Apple H2 chip, so you won’t get one-tap pairing, automatic device handoff, or Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking. Standard listening, calls, and ANC all work identically on iPhone.

Are AirPods Max heavier than LIVV Pro?

Yes — significantly. AirPods Max weigh 384.8 g. The LIVV Pro is approximately 280 g. That’s a difference you can feel after an hour of wear.
